Just got back from an English Corner at the spiders WEB and it was good. The students were very excited, happy. Jamieson assumed the role of entertainer, magician and all-knowing seer. The wise and well-fed Laowai, pouring the treacle of Laowainess into the willing mouths of the Citizens.
I have no problem with Chinese folks, the middle class urging themselves toward a better life. I like the spiders WEB, because the students wear Armani, Boss and Dior.
Your friend, Big J, had a huge self pity cry last night. Grumpy that even while he held the princess every night, he was not invited to see the grandparents.
IF you get into my corner of the ring, YOU are still the alien. Seems you are not possible to be a part of the family. Really ? Zhe dao ma ? (You know, right ?) Real Wahhhhh.
Globalisation.
That's what takes whities from their comfortable nests and venture in to places that are overtly hostile. We believe in democracy, complete with clippings from the paper that show us, strong, proud and free.
That's why we come to China.
Why ? And, again I ask you Why ?
Are we free in China ? Well. we go to the Consulate and try to evict our Australian government, from 13,000 km away. VOTE for the opposition party.
Jamieson wakes up each morning and realises he is still in China. A cunning fellow, who learns fast. Wily, slippery but trustworthy : Isn't that a metaphor for China ?
Why do we come to China and live here for years ? Is it the allure of beautiful Chinese Ladies ? The attractive living conditions ? Condomimiums ?
No, Jamieson has concluded that the reason for being here is Care.
Such an extreme paradox, the toxicity of the environment vs the loving kisses from Big J's Kindy kids.
Pick one which is better ?
I get at least 10 kisses a day. How many do you get ? Perfectly innocent kids, in the face of globalisation. They don't kiss the Chinese local teachers. Globalisition is in their faces.
As for the spiders WEB, I am unconcclusive. Do they dangle their lure for a laowai (foreigner) boyfriend) ?
Absolutely. If I was in their shoes, I'd give it a good try.
Many of them are ummmm lovely. But, let's face it : China belongs to them, they belong to China. How can they sleep in a bed that is not inot in China ?
Roots are deep in China 中国. A foreigner can't just waltz in and pick the flower. We need to preserve the face and dignity of our likes.
The point ? The point of this meandering, aimless diatribe ?
Goodnight and goodbye.
No, there is a point, I may have missed it. (We are in China, and its our duty,) What transpires is our luck .
